Who will make the cut?

Stand by your scissors as eight talented amateur stylists get to grips with a set of hair-raising styling challenges in this exciting new competition.

Whether they’re doing friends’ hair for nights out or devising their own amazing new styles, these entertaining and very different characters each have their own unique vision and are utterly passionate about hair.

But will that be enough to impress the straight-talking expert judges?

Each episode sees the contestants facing three tricky challenges in a race against the clock. As the series progresses, the challenges get increasingly difficult and the amateurs must continually improve their skills and draw on all of their creative flair if they are to make it into the next round.

They all believe they’ve got what it takes to win the contest – who will be head and shoulders above the rest?

Steve Jones

Born Stephen Ashton Jones in the Rhondda Valley, Wales in 1977, Steve’s first foray into the public spotlight was as a model for Elle magazine. His smouldering good looks quickly pricked the attention of international powerhouse brands, and he soon travelled the globe as the face (and torso) of campaigns for Versace, Armani, Ralph Lauren, Adidas and Coca Cola.

In 2003, Steve’s alluring charm secured his big broadcasting break as lead presenter for Channel 4’s weekend youth show T4. He spent the next seven years honing his interviewing skills with A-list celebrities, winning a nationwide army of fans and becoming TV hot property.

In addition to continual success on British screens as host of the BBC’s Let’s Dance for Comic Relief 2013 and presenter of the talent search show Hair, Steve has also won favour with American audiences. His stateside CV includes fronting the US version of The X Factor, hosting BAFTA coverage for E! Entertainment, and guest co-hosting Entertainment Tonight alongside Nancy O'Dell.

Denise McAdam

Dubbed the UK’s ‘first female celebrity hairdresser’, Scottish-born Denise McAdam has come a long way since mastering her scissor technique as an ambitious City & Guilds graduate at the legendary Michaeljohn’s salon in London’s swanky Mayfair in the 1980s.

She gained momentum securing her first shoot for Vogue magazine at the tender age of 20, and quickly become the hairdresser of choice to style celebrity shoots for such famed photographers as David Bailey, Lord Lichfield, Lord Snowden and Terry O’Neill.

In 1986 Denise further cemented her flair for hair for the rich and famous with a coveted contract to style the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson’s hair for her wedding to Prince Andrew. She was awarded a Royal Victorian Medal for services to the Royal Family in 2010.

For over three decades, Denise has scissored and styled more iconic heads than most session hair stylists could ever dream of. Her impressive client list includes royal silver screen legend Grace Kelly, supermodels Cindy Crawford, Yasmin Le Bon and Naomi Campbell, music superstars Rod Stewart, Kylie Minogue and Sade, and American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Alain Pichon

Born in Nantes, France in 1966, Alain Pichon hails from three generations of hairdressers.

He took his first steps in continuing his clan’s professional legacy as a trainee at the largest salon in Loire Valley, which was affiliated to the prestigious Vidal Sassoon Academy. Aged 21, Alain migrated to London and quickly gained kudos scaling the ranks of Toni & Guy to become artistic director, travelling the globe to impart his knowledge to budding talent at trade shows and seminars.

At 28, equipped with a glowing reputation for cutting-edge urban trends, Alain broke away from corporations in favour of operating as a freelance professional. In addition to being a stylist to the stars, he began collaborating more with big-name designers to create bespoke hairstyles for catwalk shows and advertising campaigns, and styling shoots for international fashion magazines.

Alain’s has styled David and Victoria Beckham, Sting and Trudie Styler, Scarlett Johansson, Prince William and Harry, Kylie Minogue, Claudia Schiffer and Madonna. His magazine credits include Vogue, Another Magazine, W Magazine, Numero and Dazed and Confused, plus campaigns and fashion shows for Prada, YSL, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Hugo Boss.
